William Thorson is a Swedish poker professional who currently lives in Varberg, Sweden. He was born in 1983.
It became obvious quite early on in his academic career that conventional education was not something he’d ever grow fond of or excel at. He started playing poker online at the play money tables in 2002 and soon made his first deposit of $50. His unusual choice of career enjoyed full support on the part of his father who became a huge factor in his son’s eventual success.
The under-bankrolled $50 player soon turned into a real threat for everyone else’s stacks and he first entered the spotlight in 2004, when he finished 9th in the NL Holdem event of the Ladbrokes Poker Cruise.
From there on, his career arched upward and in 2006 he scored his first WSOP cash finish. He was eliminated 13th in the Main Event, which was eventually won by Jamie Gold and which went on to set the record for the biggest ever WSOP Big Dance prize-pool.
He followed that up with another WSOP cash in 2007, this time in the $5,000 Limit Holdem event. He finished 3rd for a prize of $136,493.
Altogether, he has 4 WSOP money finishes and his best Main Event finish to date remains the 13th place he attained in 2006.
Being European, Thorson would definitely not shy away from taking part in EPT events. He made his first final table appearance during the Dublin stop of season 3, (in 2006) when he took down a prize of EUR 184k for his 3rd place finish.
In 2008, he made yet another EPT final table: this time in the Caribbean Adventure. He followed that up with a 6th place finish in the EPT’s San Remo event for a prize of $184k.
He also has two WPT money finishes.
William Thorson is a member of the team of professional players PokerStars maintain. He spends most of his time playing poker, either online or traveling all over the world to live events.
He is also an animal-lover and he owns several horses back in Sweden.
His live tournament winnings are estimated to exceed $1.8 million.
